No Longer Tongue Tied

We have noticed that Brian has difficulty pronouncing S and R.
3rd Grade is the time S and R receive the attention they are entitled.
This year a thorough speech evaluation uncovered the root of Brian's dilemma,
He is, in fact, tongue tied!

With haste we sought an ENT surgeon to set Brian's tongue free.
Turns out, Kim found us one of 2010's Top AZ Surgeons.
This was quite comforting. This morning Brian went for his surgery to free him from this restriction.
He put on the clown fabric gown.
He selected the best stickers they had to offer.
The amazing Anesthesiologist waited to place his IV until he was asleep!

He championed the surgery in just 20 minutes.
Five little stitches that absorb over time.
He even pulled out his own IV.
When it was time to go, these guys got a real laugh.

I pulled out the keys for the car I didn't drive.
Attempted to push the key fob to locate it.
Absence of sound brought me to the realization I was looking for the wrong car.
To my surprise I was standing behind the car I did bring.

Further clues that mom did not cope well today:
I wore my shirt inside out.
Discovered 30 minutes after arriving at the surgical center.

I broke into tears as they wheeled my nervous boy away.
Wore my sunglasses so I could pretend no one would notice.

I let Brian be helped into the front seat.
He pointed out that I never let him sit in the front.
How long was it going to take before I recognized this problem?

I paid $3.49 for OJ at Einstein Bro's after the surgery
Anyone who pays that has a serious problem.

Drove my son to the mall at 9:30.
We walked in and I remembered the mall opens at 10.
I almost hit a car in the parking lot.
How close was it? I couldn't actually tell you.
I thought I was the only car there.

Resolution:
Next time my son goes into surgery
I will have someone else drive us!

I may be a nurse
But clearly my nerves are not impenetrable!

As I am finishing typing this up
Our favorite surgeon personally called to check on Brian.
Now that is quality service!

All in all I think it was a success! Ok, so you were a basket case, your allowed it, we all would be. I'm so glad that he was happy and everything went well for a little boy. What more could you ask for?? Love you guys!

:( So sad he had to have it, but I bet it will be so liberating to catch up on those letters!

Evan was super tongue tied as a baby and had to have his cut as a newborn. His was super obvious, though.

Hang in there mama- sorry is was a scary nerves day!

hey we need to hang out soon!

You should ask him if he remembers his trip to the mall. After Jackson was put under for a tooth removal I took him to Jamba Juice. Later that day the kid had no recollection of it whatsoever!!

I'm glad you survived!

Fascinating that you never even knew this until now. But how great that he could be in and out, and soon he will have speech freedom.

Your list of things you did wrong was cracking me up. Apparently youa're not so hot under pressure. hahaha

So glad that everything turned out OK. Love you both. Seeing you guys yesterday, I never would have guessed you went through that just the day before. The nerves are natural. Just means you love him madly!

What a great mom you are! You discovered the problem, had it fixed, and were right there with him. Sorry it was so stressful for you -- but Brian is so lucky to have you.

That's my girl! What a trooper to keep after the issue all the way to the finish line. Remember that the success is in the final destination and the space between we just call "experience!" I love the pictorial history for Brian. He will love having all this to look back on, so beautifully recorded. Love you, Mom
