By finishing all 3 legs at once!
Did you have a cousin your age at your school?
With an uncanny ability to make you feel cool?
A friend from diapers. For hours we played.
We swam in her pool, and beside it we layed.
She hosted the cool parties, all of which I attended.
Others were jealous, when her short guest lists were ended.
She kindly invites me, She quietly supports.
Not many are her equal in virtually all sports.
Lately I find she encourages me more.
Reminds me of social events galore.
High School Reunions and cheerleading pal's.
Girlfriend's with whom I was one of the gals.
When I don't rally to the call.
What is my problem? I don't know at all.
She's trained us for Triathlons, inspired us off our couches.
She's turned us back into athletes, instead of just slouches.
Next week is her birthday and she'll be 31,
On the very day there's a race to be won!
I won't come in first. I really don't care.
I'm just excited to get back out there!
May 9th is the day, we'll be taking by storm.
We'll be testing our nature's and showing good form.
This Triathlon reminds me of seizing the day.
Of not wasting time, choosing at home to stay.
Opportunities await, they knock at our door.
Do we choose to do less? When we ought to do more?
Do we sit on the side lines and heckle the racers?
Do we wish we were them? The real risk takers!
Taking the chances to visit old friends.
Or joining new races, establishing new trends.
On these occasions we are making a choice:
Whether embracing new challenges or hiding in corners,
If we resist opportunity, We're the forlorners.
It's fun to remember the joys from before.
When life was wide open, every avenue left to explore.
It's then that I realize all options are there.
Though I haven't yet tried some, doesn't mean I don't dare.
It's always okay to embrace new change.
Seek out opportunities to broaden my range.
So I continue in motion, I quicken my pace.
I've no time to lose, as on comes my race.

I so GO GIRL! I am so proud of all your efforts and your maturity in reaching beyond the comfortable and beyond the safety of anonymity to stretch and grow. I love the magic of change that we experience as we are willing to set old habits on the shelf and make new, better ones, to move more, do more, and at the same time enjoy more because of that personal growth. It is truly magic that one person making changes has a positive impact on all those who are around them. They can't stay just the same because YOU are changing. I am marking my calendar for MY turn to be a cheerleader! Love, Mom
Oh Wendy....so great. I didn't realize that you also had G'pa Shumways great gift for verse too! Although I haven't seen far enough of your during this training session, I have LOVED our visits and time together. This really has been such an exceptional 4 months--and there aren't adequate words to tell Dixie how great her efforts are and how much we appreciate it. But, your words are pretty close. :-)
You're mad rhyming skills are ridiculous! Do you just bust those out in 10 minutes or less??? Loved the whole poem and the photo--and of course, the sentiment that went along with it. That was just fantastic and very motivational. I hope to be cheering you guys on from the sidelines (but I may still be in the hospital!!!), but I can't wait for all the stories and buzz afterward!
Thanks Wendy. I'm so glad I had 4 willing subjects because this has been so much fun for me. A discovery process in a different way. I've realized how much I truly LOVE to train and see people make real changes and achieve their potential. You guys are all amazing and I've loved this whole experience. Hard to believe there are only 2 weeks (actually less) left. That makes me sad. We will have to do more.... :)
Wendy, you are a rock star! Honestly, I can't think of a cooler person. Nice rhymes too. I'll expect this to be rapped to an exceptional beat on the day of the triathlon. I'll be there to cheer you guys on.
Anyway, I love you to pieces! I truly have a great cousin in you. Your example of service inspires me, and your over all selfless nature makes me want to improve my selfish nature. Thank you.
Love it! You are amazing... I can't wait to see you there. Triumphant. I'm so proud of you girls!

Wendy, Finally I have a computer and got to read this great rhyme! AWESOME! (I think I should find another word, but sometimes that's the only one that really conveys the message). :)
Love you... You ROX in so many ways!
